The land is very important because it makes the logans independant. It also gives them more space to grow and sell crops and livestock. Also, it makes them a target for racist groups. I am glad when David lights the cotton field on fire. By doing that he saves T.J. and gets people of different races to work together. This reminds me of when David threats Mr. Andersen to blow up the forest in Song of the Trees.
