The land is very important to the Logan family because it is the only memory they have of Big Ma's husband, Paul Edward . It is also their pride they live with because it is very rare for a black family to afford their own land. Besides having each other, the land is basically all they have. They have had difficult times, but not once have they lost their precious land. They came close to losing it, but with the help of the cotton and Uncle Hammer, they made it through with their problems. They have always gone through thick and thin with their beloved land.
