Many people believe T.J. is the most frustrating character. I disagree with that. T. J. is very easily mislead, and he likes to have people paying attention to him. When he becomes ¨friends¨ with R.W. and Melvin, they give him lots of attention. He also thought they were actually his friends. Another reason he became their friends is that when the Simms would give him things, his family would not have to provide them for him. T. J. may have thought he was helping his family out. For these reasons, I beleive that T.J. is not the most frustrating character- that would be R.W. and Melvin. They lied to T.J. They framed T.J. They tried, and possibly succeeded, to get him killed. T.J. trusted them- and they betrayed that trust. R.W and Melvin could have left him alone, or better yet, used their influence to convince others that they should change their minds about colored people (however unlikely it would be that it could make a difference). Instead they betrayed him, allowing hin to go wholeheartily into their trap.
